D.A.F./Salt and Earth Art Exhibit

"Salt and Earth" was a collaborative exhibition of three artists each working in different media. WSD's resident artist used local flora and foliage to create frames and gateways for viewers to walk through and view the art along side.
"The Gate" was an installation at the entrance of the gallery space framing your view point and forcing you to walk through it to enter.
We'd Hoped that maybe some of components of the installations would last over the course of the exhibition but that was not to be the case.
The pieces required almost daily care and were almost completely remade each week using very little from the previous weeks.
We foraged for lots Palm leaves and palm berries to use, as well as mangos, bananas, sugar cane, Gingers, Birds of paradise, colourful Crotons, vibrant Bougainvillea........

Dyah's work revolved around and was emersed in the theme of water .
The challenge was how to contain water and give it the reverence that Dyah delicately depicted in her art.
The water was held in 12 vases for each month of the year, the water in each vase at a different level.
Coral(artificial), sea fans and sponges were placed to act as an offering.
Shacqeel's pieces were digital prints and digital collages many with applied flowers, foliage and butterflies(artificial) adding a 3-d element.
Our Natural foliage installations and his interpretation of nature through a digital media worked well to tell a story of permanence and change.

Each week the piece was disassembled completely and remade from scratch.
Our hand of Sugar Bananas was one of the few elements to last more than a week.
We worked hard to keep the foliage hydrated and after several weeks came up with unique methods to do so.
